Michael Tilson Thomas, conductor

John Cage was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He and his work remain controversial, provocative and enigmatic. Marking the centenary of his birth, these concerts will trace the transformation in Cage’s methods as a composer from his early, elegant and specifically noted sounds to later existential situations in which he allowed the performers enormous freedom.

Each of these three performances—A John Cage Journey, John Cage: Song and Dance, and Renga: A John Cage Journey—will be unique in its own ways, but all will maximize the spatial and technological capabilities of the New World Center.

Confirmed guest artists include vocalists Joan La Barbara, Meredith Monk and Jessye Norman, as well as pianist Marc-André Hamelin. You won’t want to miss it!

TICKETS FOR EACH PERFORMANCE FROM $30—New World Center
