“Brooklyn rapper Talib Kweli has a talent for summing up ambitious concepts in powerfully concise phrases.” – Spin Magazine

TALIB KWELI is one of the most admired and respected rappers of his time, best evidenced by Jay-Z’s famous Black Album rhyme: “If skills sold, truth be told/I’d probably be, lyrically, Talib Kweli.”

TALIB KWELI’s buzzworthy duo act IDLE WARSHIP, with singer/songwriter RES, will make its anticipated Florida premiere at the Center’s Knight Concert Hall. In 2009, the famed rapper joined longtime collaborator RES, a Billboard Dance chart-topping artist and model, to form IDLE WARSHIP. The hip-hop/electro group released their first official album, Habits of the Heart, in November 2011. In a bold and indefinable mash-up of influences, the 12-track album uniquely mixes hip-hop, electronic and alternative music.

Accompanying IDLE WARSHIP will be a nine-piece chamber orchestra headed by local conductor and composer, Sam Hyken.  Hyken, who has more than 10 years of experience in the orchestral world, having played and taught at New World Symphony as well as the Miami Symphony Orchestra (MISO), will lend his symphonic ear as he and his eight classical players join IDLE WARSHIP to create an unconventional way of listening to hip-hop. This performance will mark the first time that TALIB KWELI works with an orchestral section.

In addition, the critically successful MC and gifted hip-hop artist will also perform hits from his solo career such as the crowd favorites “I’m on One” and “Get By, a track produced by Kanye West.

“Everything that touches Diego el Cigala’s throat turns into flamenco!” – NY Daily News

After a showstopping sold-out performance last fall, Grammy Award-winning Spanish Gitano singer DIEGO EL CIGALA returns to the Arsht Center for a second year in a row to captivate audiences with his groundbreaking blend of bolero, Argentine tango, Latin jazz and flamenco.

DIEGO EL CIGALA will perform hits from his extensive catalog including songs from 2003’s Lagrimas Negras, a legendary collaboration with renowned Cuban pianist Bebo Valdés hailed by The New York Times as “Album of the Year” and “one of the great new cross-pollinating documents of Latin music.” Additional successes include Picasso En Mis Ojos, which featured celebrated Spanish guitarist and composer Paco de Lucia and Latin jazz master Jerry Gonzalez, as well as Dos Lagrimas which seamlessly continued his illustrious fusion of flamenco, traditional Latin American melodies and Spanish folk music. Cigala & Tango, DIEGO EL CIGALA’s most recent Latin Grammy-nominated album, is a riveting live recording of the artist’s prestigious Teatro Gran Rex concert in Buenos Aires. “The charismatic singer heightens the odds by aiming to fuse Spanish flamenco with the equally gritty and powerful South American tango. The resulting disc…is electrifying.” – The Observer, UK.

“Kodo’s music can raise the roof!” – The New York Times

Knight Concert Hall

Tickets $35 to $95

“Ms. Spalding is something else: a charismatic whirlwind proudly hailed, for a while now, as some kind of vital infusion for jazz.” – The New York Times

With an inimitable style and spirited presence that is deeply rooted in jazz, ESPERANZA SPALDING has made an impressive mark in the music world since her 2006 solo debut. A few South Florida fans may recall Spalding’s high-profiled performance at President Obama’s fundraiser at the Arsht Center in 2010. For her anticipated return, the stunning songstress is poised to once again captivate Miami audiences with a full concert showcasing her myriad of talents, all of which are deeply ingrained in her music.

ESPERANZA SPALDING is celebrated for her ability to unify the sounds of jazz, neo-soul and world music, creating a fusion that is unparalleled. The talented bassist, vocalist and composer will perform the brilliant compositions of her new release, Radio Music Society. Inspired by her desire to write for large ensembles, Spalding has crafted her performances to spotlight the talents of her 12-piece world class band including Spalding on electric bass, double bass and lead vocals. Radio Music Society is a companion release, rather than a sequel, to Spalding’s previous internationally acclaimed Chamber Music Society, which culminated in her becoming the first jazz musician to win the Best New Artist GRAMMY® Award in 2011.  Radio Music Society is ESPERANZA SPALDING’s most diverse, ambitious and masterful recital yet. Each of the 12 songs is accompanied by conceptual music videos, which further express her inspiration and story behind each track.
