Launch of The Silence Project

Downtown Coral Gables will be welcoming a new art project on Friday, June 28! The Silence Project, by artist Flor Mayoral, will feature portraits of Coral Gables’ community members brandishing the universally recognized gesture and symbol for silence in select vacant storefronts along Miracle Mile.

From June 28 through August 3, fourteen storefronts will showcase 75 black and white portraits. The select storefronts are located at 150 Miracle Mile, 200 Miracle Mile, 202 Miracle Mile, 216 Miracle Mile, 219 Miracle Mile, 223 Miracle Mile, 225 Miracle Mile, 257 Miracle Mile, 299 Miracle Mile, 308 Miracle Mile, 330 Miracle Mile, 355 Miracle Mile, 365 Miracle Mile, 376 Miracle Mile and 380 Miracle Mile.

Join the project partners for a public exhibition on Gallery Night, Friday, July 5 from 8 p.m. top 10 p.m. at McBride Plaza, 150 Miracle Mile. The Plaza will include interactive projections on Fridays and Saturdays, beginning on July 5.

Conde Contemporary, 204 Miracle Mile, will also exhibit a selection of portraits and host a public opening for the street-wide exhibition on July 5 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a portion of portrait sales donated to The Coral Gables Community Foundation.

Additionally, Coral Gables residents and visitors will have a chance to become a part of the project at the weekend public exhibitions at McBride Plaza. By creating their own “Silence Project” photos at home and posting on social media with the hashtag #SilenceProject, participants will have a chance to have their photo projected at the event!
