Australian swimwear label, Kooey Australia, will officially launch their 2011/12 collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim and SwimShow 2011 in July in Miami.
For their debut appearance at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim Kooey will participate in a group runway show alongside two fellow Australian designers, Lisa Maree and Lisa Blue and Puerto Rico-based Aquarella Swimwear. Kooey will unveil 15 looks from the 2011/12 Desert Dreaming and Desert Sunset collections.
Kooey will also showcase the new collections to buyers, retailers and media at SwimShow 2011.
This season Kooey’s design focus moves inland to the Australian Central Desert in the Northern Territory. A diverse wilderness of vast valleys, red sand dunes and huge sheer rock walls, cool picturesque waterholes and sandy creeks beds of soft white sand.
“Australian summer’s are generally associated with the beach, with the coastline playing an integral part in Australian culture” says Kooey Director, Nikki Silverthorne. “This season we have moved away from the coast focusing on the breathtaking beauty of the desert which makes up 18% of the Australian continent.”
The striking prints featured in Kooey’s 2011/12 Desert Collection were designed by artist Anne Hanning, who’s spiritual connection within the cultural landscape attributes meaning and purpose to every plant, animal and geographical feature. Anne was inspired by the wild landscape and rich color palette of the Australian Central Desert. Picking up the rich pinks and oranges, golden yellows, tans and ochres, fiery reds, flamboyant crimsons and purple shadows, the prints pay respect to the many layers of the desert.
Kooey have received permission from the traditional land owners of Australia’s Central Desert region to use the word dreaming and showcase their landscape, flora and fauna for this collection.
The collection of bold styles, fashion-forward cuts includes separates and one-piece swimwear as well as resort wear, including kaftans, cover-ups, pants and t-shirts. Sizes range from XS-XL in a wide variety of styles to suit every body type.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim runs from July 15-19. Kooey will show alongside Lisa Maree, Aquarella Swimwear, Lisa Blue on July 19 at 9pm at the Cabana Grande.
SwimShow 2011 runs from July 17 – 20, at the Miami Beach Convention Center. Kooey will be at booth 512. www.kooey.com
