Elle Magazine made a tribute to South Florida’s Most Fashionable Women at its Personal Style Awards show which took place on Tuesday, October 13th, 2009 at the Bal Harbour Shops, one of the nations’ most profitable shopping centers, which has become a playground for today’s fashionistas, socialites and celebrities. The ten honorees who got chosen for their unique personal styles as well as their philanthropic work in their community stepped up on the runway with styles selected from brands at the Bal Harbour Shops. The event also included a formal runway show which exhibited the most exciting pieces from well known designers like Diane Von Furtensburg, Tiffany & Co, Jimmy Choo, Cartier, Lancome and Roberto Coin, just to name a few. The participants of the night had a chance to enjoy a night of shopping, with a percentage of the sales going to the honorees’ charities of choice. Premier Guide Miami’s Marie-Junie Pierre had a chance to conduct a one on one interview with the event’s host, Kate Davidson Hudson, Elle’s Executive Accessories Editor.
PGM: Thanks for agreeing to meet with Premier Guide Miami tonight. First of all, I must say that the fashion show tonight was amazing. I absolutely loved the dresses and the shoes.
KDH: Great. I’m really glad you enjoyed it. I think the shoes were probably my personal favorite.
PGM: As an Accessories Editor, what does your job with Elle Magazine entail?
KDH: We cover Fashion Week shows in New York, Milan and Paris. We go to the shows, meet with the journalists and the designers afterwards. Once we get back, we work the victory boards, plan our directions for the season, analyze the current trends and then work with the stylists in doing different photo shoots.
PGM: That sounds like an amazing job. Of all the women chosen as honorees tonight for Elle’s Personal Style Award, do you have any personal favorites and why do you think these women were chosen?
KDH: The ten women chosen tonight to win Elle’s Personal Style Award were chosen for the amazing work that they do. They are all devoted in terms of charity. I really feel like tonight’s honorees were the cream of the crop. .
PGM: What personal qualities does Elle look for in choosing honorees for the Personal Style Award?
KDH: We look for Personal Style inside and out, so that would translate into someone with unique style in their manner of dressing, culminating from past experiences which results in creative expression. We also look for personal style in terms of their manner of life, such as their participation in charitable organizations and giving back to their community.
PGM: What do you think the current trends are right now for both accessories and clothes?
KDH: We just saw the Spring Summer Fashion Collection and I think that as opposed to the last season which was Winter/Fall 09, everything is little lighter, a little more feminine, and not as aggressive nor as eighties inspired. It is definitely a little bit more tropical and more uplifting than last season.
