Graffiti Gone Global (GGG) launches its fourth consecutive year with an exhibition of street and graffiti art running parallel to Art Basel Miami Beach. Entitled Fresh Produce, GGG’s installation explores the gray area between the street and the gallery, while adopting the quintessential farmers’ market mantra of “fresh.” Powered by SUSHISAMBA and produced in collaboration with Primary Flight, Operation Design and Haas & Hahn, GGG will be curated by Cristina Gonzalez — aka She Kills He — and will feature work from today’s top street and graffiti artists. The exhibition will be housed in a 7,000-square-foot venue in the Wynwood Arts District and will open to the public on December 1. A private preview/ opening reception will be held on November 30 from 5 to 8 p.m.

In the tradition of SUSHISAMBA’s cuisine, GGG’s Fresh Produce blurs the line between the street and the gallery, presenting a multifaceted exhibition highlighting the freshest and most undeniable influences of urban aesthetics and contemporary design. GGG’s Fresh Produce will feature a roster of international artists, including: The London Police, Revok, Erik Otto, Skewville, Pepa Prieto, Augustine Kofie, Alëxone, Kenton Parker, Tes One, BASK, Dolla, Jim Darling, Dabs & Myla, Stormie Mills, Michael De Feo, Andrew Holder, Jack Hudson, Tristan Eaton, Tatiana Suarez, Surge, Jersey Joe, Remed, Parskid, Logan Hicks, Escif, Depoe, Remi/Rough, Ryan Bubnis, Mike Perry, Reyes and from the Family Baglione: Flip, Sesper, Thais Beltrame and Herbert Baglione, with a final list of participants announced on GGG’s website, www.gggexhibit.com, in November.

In addition, GGG will reach beyond an art show’s typical white wall confines by further melding the streets and the gallery. SUSHISAMBA has commissioned Dutch art duo Haas & Hahn to create a new large-scale sculptural installation. This new work resembles the sprawling, modular structures of Brazil’s favelas and showcases the artists’ colorful vision. It originated earlier this year in their “Favela Painting” (www.favelapainting.com), a project which incorporated local youth in Rio de Jainero. For GGG, Haas & Hahn will utilize shanty-like structures as canvases for their vibrant palette, continuing their exploration of street culture’s ability to transcend cultural boundaries.

Furthermore, GGG’s Fresh Produce will highlight a unique “Eames Inspiration” collection of iconic Eames® Molded Plywood Chairs as re-imagined by some of today’s most celebrated graffiti and street artists. “Eames Inspiration” was displayed this past May in Barneys’ famous windows in New York by Simon Doonan and auctioned online to benefit Operation Design; a creative mentorship program that organizes architects, artists and related talents to work with New York City public school students to create motivating and inspiring projects. The collection was purchased at a public auction by SUSHISAMBA and Fresh Produce will give the Miami public an opportunity to view it in its entirety for the first time since last spring. Continuing its partnership with Operation Design, SUSHISAMBA is a proud sponsor of the still-to-be-announced “Door Project,” with the winner of the project named and on display at GGG’s Fresh Produce exhibit.

GGG will also provide all visitors with an opportunity to become collectors themselves, by offering original artworks and merchandise — along with, appropriately, fresh fruits and vegetables — available for purchase.

Shimon Bokovza — concept developer of GGG, as well as SUSHISAMBA restaurants along with partners Danielle Billera and Matt Johnson — has consistently demonstrated his support for street artists. In addition to producing and underwriting previous exhibitions such as Ginza Tropicalia, he has commissioned site-specific street art in SUSHISAMBA restaurants throughout the country.

“Bringing art to SUSHISAMBA is something that is a natural evolution in our whole concept and experience,” says Bokovza. “We would only call upon the best talent to execute a dream that was sparked with the inception of Art Basel Miami Beach.”

Primary Flight and Cristina Gonzalez GGG 2010 is managed by Books Bischof and curated by Cristina Gonzalez. Bischof is the founder of Primary Flight, the acclaimed multi-site, street-level mural installation that has taken place in Wynwood since 2007. He is currently working with the city of Miami to launch the Wynwood Mural Museum in December 2010. Cristina Gonzalez, aka She Kills He, originally hails from Caracas, Venezuela, and holds a degree in Museum Studies from Florida International University. Best known for her notorious mural “And the Circus Came to Town” from 2006, her work is exhibited internationally. She is currently assembling a contemporary drawing exhibition scheduled to open in Miami in 2011 and is finalizing a children’s book for release in 2012.

GGG‘s mission is to celebrate and showcase the evolving art and culture of the street. Taking place annually during Art Basel Miami Beach, GGG is the only exhibit of its kind, showcasing the work of today’s most talented international graffiti and street artists. The project strives to break the barriers between the street and the gallery to bring the irrefutable influence of these creative energies on all aspects of design to light.
