Frost Family Day 2010The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University presents Family Day, October 30 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at 10975 SW 17th ST. The event is free and open to the public.

The fun-filled afternoon is designed for the entire family to enjoy and with activities including mask-making, portraiture, face paintings, creative games, music, and light snacks. There will be different stations set up around the open café area for the children and families to create their artwork. Visitors can also tour exhibits including Embracing Modernity: Venezuelan Geometric Abstraction; Selections from ANOMIE 1492-2006 by Arnold Mesches; Sequentia by Xavier Cortada; La Habana Moderna in The Wolfsonian Teaching Gallery at The Frost Art Museum and From Old to New.

The Playground Theatre will be on hand for a special theatre workshop for kids. The PlayGround Theatre’s talented company members create an interactive introduction to the inner-workings of a theatre production. Kids will learn about what it takes to create theatre, they will play theatre games and create an original scene. There will also be a special performance by The Roxy Theatre Group.

Families and visitors will be able to explore the Kenan-Flagler Discovery Gallery which was ranked by Miami New Times as the “Best Place for Kids to Unleash Their Creativity 2009.” The Family Discovery Gallery is designed to be an interactive space where children of all ages try new things as they practice sharing, learning new skills and developing self-directed exploration. This state-of-the-art Family Discovery Gallery consists of 13 stations including the computer-based display, Picture Yourself, where a camera takes an image of a person’s face and reproduces it on a touch screen.
