Florida Grand Opera Kicks Off Zarzuela Celebration: Gary Nader Gallery Welcomes Top Donors

In honor of its first zarzuela production, Luisa Fernanda, Florida Grand Opera (FGO) hosted an event at the Gary Nader Gallery on May 11, 2011, where Alvaro Martinez-Fonts, CEO of JP Morgan Private Bank, presented FGO with a $100,000 check realizing the company’s pledge to become a zarzuela Producing Sponsor.

This is the first event of a summer-long campaign entitled “Zarzuela and Beyond” designed to spread the word among the Hispanic community about the Spanish musical theater tradition that is zarzuela and its starring role in the FGO 2011-2012 season. To kick off the campaign, FGO’s top donors, such as Sanford Ziff, and prominent Hispanic leaders, including Maria Rosa Lopez Munoz, came together at the Gary Nader Gallery where they enjoyed a special performance of arias from Luisa Fernanda by Miami soprano Rebekah Diaz, signature cocktails and tropical-themed appetizers amid South Florida’s leading collection of Latin American art.
