FIRST EVER Miccosukee Mural in Wynwood- Native American Art

FIRST EVER Miccosukee Mural in Wynwood- Native American Art

NEW Native American mural in Miami’s Wynwood Neighborhood, set tobe unveiled on Thursday, Nov. 21, from 9-11 am. The mural by artist Bunky Eco-Hawk was commissioned by the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida and will highlight the Tribe’s contributions to the preservation of the Everglades.

Home to nearly 200+ murals, the entire Wynwood neighborhood changes its street murals throughout the month of November leading to Art Basel/Miami Art Week.

The actual mural will be composed of Miccosukee colors on top, portraits of their leaders (from eldest to youngest), and there will also be a scene of a Miccosukee man wrestling an alligator with a gas mask and trash surrounding him. This represents the Miccosukee’s long-standing tradition of alligator wrestling, but with a new twist to help bring awareness to pollution and other factors contributing to environment loss and climate change. Another portion of the mural will be a Miccosukee emoji, since Native Americans do not have a dedicated emoji in the popular phone app.
