Discover The Palm Beaches Launches “Destination Champions” Program

Destination-ChampionsDiscover The Palm Beaches (DTPB) has created a new “Destination Champions” program to further boost tourism to Palm Beach County. The program is designed to encourage, incentivize and reward local business leaders to recommend The Palm Beaches as the host destination for meetings, conferences and conventions that they attend outside the county throughout the year.

Discover The Palm Beaches is the official agency entrusted to market The Palm Beaches as a leisure, meetings and convention destination. The global sales team solicits event organizers and acts as the liaison between national and international businesses and organizations and our local hotels, partners and the Palm Beach County Convention Center.

“As direct decision influencers, the Destination Champions serve as great ambassadors for The Palm Beaches and spokespersons about the meetings and convention support services provided by Discover The Palm Beaches,” said Doug McLain, Senior Vice President of Global Sales for DTPB. “This support includes local accommodation knowledge and relationships, pre-planning support services, event hosting grants, and on-site meeting services.”

DTPB is working with several business organizations throughout the destination to promote the Destination Champions program, including the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, and the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County (BDB), among others.

“We are delighted to work with our friends at the local chambers and BDB to build the Destination Champions program,” said Jorge Pesquera, President and CEO of DTPB. “Destination Champions can be a powerful extension of our sales force, building on their pride for our unique community and delivering a compelling message about our convention and meetings capabilities. Corporate relocations always start with a single visit – it’s a win-win all around.”

“We are happy to partner with Discover The Palm Beaches and our members,” said Beth Kigel, President and CEO of the Northern Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce. “This effort helps us to showcase why we love where we live, work and play in Palm Beach County.”

In 2014, the DTPB global sales team recorded nearly 120,000 group, meetings and convention room nights sold into Palm Beach County, representing more than $45 million in direct economic impact to the destination. Taken as a whole, tourism supports more than 60,000 local jobs and nearly $7 billion in economic impact, which benefits hotels, attractions, restaurants, shopping, transportation, real estate, support services and every sector of the economy.
