Cine! Chilean Film Festival 2010

On the eve of the Bicentennial of Chile’s Independence, Miami celebrates with “Cine! Chilean Film Festival 2010”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, the Chilean Consulate General in Miami, ProChile, the Chile-US Chamber of Commerce, Miami Dade College y Andromeda Productions, Inc., present “CINE! Chilean Film Festival 2010” in Miami.

Celebrating the Bicentennial of Chile’s independence with the aim of helping the victims of the February 27th earthquake that shook the country, Andromeda Productions, Inc., creates a week dedicated to Chilean cinema, as an official commemorative event.

The films will be screened at the Miami-Dade College Tower Theater, located at 1508 S.W. 8th St., Miami, FL 33135, (www.mdc.edu/culture/tower.html), from September 10th-16th, 2010.

“CINE! Chilean Film Festival 2010” will premiere in the Florida markets four of the most recent creations of the Chilean movie industry, including “El Regalo” (“The Gift”), comedy by Cristián Galaz and Andrea Ugalde, winner of the Italian Trieste Festival Best Movie award; “Teresa”, biographical drama directed by Tatiana Gaviola; “A Un Metro de Ti” (“A Stop Away from You”), romantic comedy, a chilean-spanish production directed by Daniel Henríquez; and “Ojos Rojos” (“Red Eyes”), documentary on the Chilean soccer team, by Juan Ignacio Sabatini, Juan Pablo Sallato, and Ismael Larraín.

The Festival is produced by Andromeda Productions, Inc. and coordinated by its president, Emilia Anguita Huerta, a Miami-based Chilean filmmaker, film and television director, author of award-winning short films, most importantly “Red Bird”, produced in Miami in 2005.  Andromeda Productions, Inc., is an independent production company based in Florida, dedicated to creating corporate messages and films for television.

This September, “CINE! A UN METRO DE TI (A STOP AWAY FROM YOU)

Summary: In the 70’s, the very first children to ever get lost on the subway system of Santiago, Chile, were Sebastián and Paula. Since then, their lives continue to cross and in the midst of the daily grind of the city and absorbed by their daily routines they meet again. Sebastián was raised in Madrid and works as a cook, Paula is an unemployed secretary trying to find herself. They both feel an instant attraction but their journey will not end until they satisfy their true desires.

Summary: Ojos Rojos (Red Eyes) is a documentary about soccer and the countrywide passion sparked by the team’s classification into the World Cup. During eight years of following to the Chilean national team, the features and nuances that shape us as a society are reflected in both defeat and victory, trying to answer the mystery of the sport that makes it the most popular in the world.
