CALLING ALL MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH FLORIDA CAST, CREW & EXTRAS OF 1982 MOVIE PORKY’S

Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLiFF) officially launched a Dade, Broward and Palm Beach county-wide search for members of the cast, crew and extras who participated in the movie Porky’s, to come together for a commemorative screening of the film followed by a party and “Cast & Crew Class Reunion.”

Porky’s, released in 1982 by Twentieth Century Fox, is part of a nationwide limited engagement event that brings some of the studios most notable and notorious films back to the big screen in honor of the studio’s 75th anniversary.

“We’re thrilled to be a part of Fox’s 75th Anniversary celebration with a tribute screening of Porky’s,” commented Gregory von Hausch, President and CEO of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, which is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year. “Porky’s was filmed in South Florida in 1981 and featured many local residents, so we thought it would be fun to reunite everyone who participated in the original production.”

Added von Hausch, “It’s also a chance for audiences to see some areas of Dade and Broward County as they were 29 years ago.”

The event will be held Saturday, September 4 at Cinema Paradiso. FLiFF kick’s-off the film at 7:00pm followed by the Porky’s “Cast & Crew Class Reunion” and Party catered by Chez Porky’s, a Pompano Beach restaurant named after the film.

Writer/director Bob Clark based the original Porky’s on actual occurrences at Boca Ciega High School (in Gulfport, FL), and Fort Lauderdale High School in the early 1960s, as well as a joint called Porky’s in Oakland Park, Florida.  The film starred Dan Monahan, Mark Herrier, Wyatt Knight, Roger Wilson and Kim Cattrall, in one of her first major movie roles.

Unique in its time, Porky’s was the first coming of age comedy that portrayed high school life as an all-out quest for sex. The box-office success of the film influenced countless numbers of teen genre films including American Pie and led to the production of two sequels which were also filmed in South Florida – Porky’s II: The Next Day (1983) and Porky’s Revenge (1985).

Porky’s was filmed on location in Miami , Hollywood Beach and Fort Lauderdale including Oleta River State Recreation Area and Miami High.
