Building on the success of the inaugural Edición 01, Cacao, this new release features rare Dominican Arabica coffee beans, celebrated for their bright acidity and rich chocolaty undertones. The beans are toasted in Brugal’s virgin French Oak casks using the groundbreaking Aromatic Cask Toasting method, developed by fifth-generation Maestra Ronera Jassil Villanueva Quintana. This process infuses the rum with aromatic notes while avoiding direct contact with the liquid, resulting in a harmonious blend of flavors that include dried fruits, mocha, and sweet cloves intertwined with smoky wood.
Jassil Villanueva Quintana emphasizes the importance of community and connection in creating this rum, which embodies the Dominican tradition of “cafecito”—a cherished coffee moment shared among friends and family. “Many stories and laughs have been shared over a cherished cafecito in the Dominican Republic,” she said. “This new rum is a celebration of shared moments and memories.”
The Dominican coffee used in Colección Visionaria is grown with meticulous care, reflecting Brugal’s commitment to fine craftsmanship. Less than 20% of the Dominican Republic’s coffee is exported, making this spirit a unique treasure from the region. Each bottle of Colección Visionaria Edición 02 is a crafted piece of art, hand-sealed and signed by Jassil Villanueva Quintana, and displayed in elegant navy blue netting—an upscale version of Brugal’s iconic protective wrap. Only six batches will be distilled, totaling fewer than 35,000 bottles worldwide, ensuring its status as a collector’s item.
With an alcohol content of 45% ABV, this dark golden amber rum offers an aroma of caramel and freshly brewed coffee interlaced with dark chocolate and vanilla. On the palate, it delivers spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, transitioning into rich coffee flavors with hints of dried fruit. The experience culminates in a smooth finish marked by lingering smoke.
