Broward College MLK Day of Service 2016
· Broward College is giving back to the community by partnering with the 2016 MLK Day of Service Advisory Board to support volunteer projects honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy for a national day of service on Monday, January 18th.
· With funding from the Florida Legislature, Broward College and the MLK Day of Service Advisory Board awarded $190,986 to 42 community organizations hosting volunteer projects in Broward County on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
· Volunteer initiatives for this year include packing homeless survival kits, planting health gardens, creating affordable housing, revitalizing community buildings, organizing food drives to assist veterans and more.
· Participating organizations include Urban League of Broward County, Dillard High, Rebuilding Together Broward, Broward College’s Office of Student Life and Habitat for Humanity of Broward.
· Broward College President J. David Armstrong, Jr. will be volunteering at a number of service sites throughout the day to work with and meet community service leaders and the over 850 volunteers that have signed up. Interview opportunities with President Armstrong are available upon request.
