Lock up your livestock: Borgore — bass culture’s enfant terrible — has returned to terrorize speakers and stages yet again with a new release and tour. On February 28th, the man who claims he “ruined dubstep” released Flex, his fifth EP of original material, on his own Buygore label — then follows that up with a massive 37-date headlining tour. Flex represents the latest salvo in the 24-year-old producer/songwriter/DJ’s rapid ascent. The formally trained jazz musician’s original tracks and remixes (spanning M.I.A., Rusko, and Britney Spears to LMFAO and Passion Pit) have become club smashes. Flex, though, proves Borgore’s most ambitious effort yet. “Kiss My Lips” — a monstrous collaboration with Dev, the dance-music siren and David Guetta — is already spawning dancefloor mayhem; as well, the two versions of the title track — one a pounding dubstep version, the other a hip-hop flavored take — prove Borgore’s hardest, raunchiest beats yet. Expect Borgore to scale new heights of outrageousness as well on his upcoming tour. “Most DJs just sleep behind the decks, checking their email,” he notes. “I try to bring some stage presence.” That’s an understatement — Borgore’s propulsive, interactive live shows have turned him into one of electronic music’s most popular, controversial figures. His trademark combination of bass-in-your-face frenzy and pole-dancer grinding typically climaxes with a cavalcade of bare breasts onstage and him crowd surfing over furious mosh pits; expect this latest jaunt to be Borgore’s most wild escapade yet. “What excites me is making the live show even crazier,” he explains. “I’m saying the craziest shit, doing the craziest stuff you’re not supposed to do. I never thought it would get to this point — but whenever I accomplish one dream, I want to get the next, bigger one.” Don’t miss the Mayhem!
