Author Jen Karetnick shares Foodie Haikus at Cultural Hub – Saturday October 22 at 9 p.m.

Next@19th launches the second season of its spirited haiku night under a new alias, “Rooftop CHAIku.” As the new moniker suggests, this monthly literary forum will also take on a new location – the square, moonlit rooftop of the downtown cultural center.

Renowned local journalist and poet Jen Karetnick hosts the kick-off event, sharing a selection of culinary-themed poetry from her Necessary Salt (Pudding House Publications, 2007) and upcoming book Landscaping for Wildlife (Big Wonderful Press).  Karetnick is well-known for her roles as dining critic for MIAMI Magazine and columnist for Biscayne Times.  Also a member of the Academy of American Poets and the Association of Writers and Writing Programs, Karetnick has released three books and is currently working on a cookbook, Romancing the Mango: Recipes for the Obsessed, slated for release in Fall 2013.

Rooftop CHAIku invites writers, poets, creative minds to take out their soapbox and share with audiences.  Engaging writers and enthusiasts to create haikus rooted in their Jewish identity, culture, practice, heritage or community, select dates will be produced in collaboration with the University of Wynwood poetry collective to access the broadest pool of talents and spoken word.
