The Grammy Music Educator Award recognizes current K–12 and college music teachers who have made a significant and lasting contribution to music education and who demonstrate a commitment to keeping music in schools. The award is open to any active U.S. music teacher — nominations can come from students, parents, colleagues, or the teachers themselves. This year’s pool drew over 2,000 initial nominations before being narrowed to 25 semifinalists.
Each semifinalist receives a $500 honorarium, with a matching grant awarded to their school. From the 25 semifinalists, 10 finalists will be announced in November — each receiving a $1,000 honorarium and a matching school grant. The single recipient will be flown to Los Angeles to attend the 69th Grammy Awards® and a full slate of Grammy Week events in 2027.
Gulliver Prep, the Coral Gables-based independent school with campuses across Miami-Dade, has a long tradition of arts programming. Rubio’s selection reflects both the depth of South Florida’s music education community and the school’s investment in the arts — a reminder that the pipeline to professional music runs through classrooms like his.
