ART OF HIP HOP ANNOUNCES EXHIBITION & PROGRAMMING LINEUP AHEAD OF MIAMI DEBUT IN PARTNERSHIP W/ STOCKX – ART WEEK MIAMI

The Art of Hip Hop, a new museum dedicated to showcasing the rich history and visual identity of hip hop, has announced an exciting lineup of programming in partnership with StockX. Set to open its doors on December 5th during Art Basel Miami Beach 2023, the museum will offer a captivating exhibition entitled “From the Bronx to the Beach,” featuring rare vintage ephemera and artwork from hip hop pioneers.

While hip hop culture often spotlights rappers and DJs, The Art of Hip Hop aims to shine a spotlight on the unsung heroes of the movement – the visual creators who have shaped its identity. Notable photographers such as Janette Beckman, Mike Miller, and Lisa Leone will have their works featured, alongside album cover artists like Cey Adams and Eric Haze. The exhibition will also pay homage to Miami’s own hip hop history through the lenses of local historian and photographer Derick G and Esdras T. Thelusma.

In collaboration with StockX, The Art of Hip Hop will curate a collection of sneakers that align with the stories depicted in the exhibition. This partnership reflects the significant influence hip hop has had on sneaker culture throughout its 50-year history.

Aside from the exhibition, the museum will also house a specialty gift shop and art gallery, offering original paintings on canvas and sculptures spanning five decades for purchase. Located at 299 NW 25th St., Miami, FL 33127, the museum will be open daily from 11am to 6pm starting December 5th.

Tickets, priced at $12, will be available exclusively on the museum’s website, www.artofhiphop.com. To ensure accessibility, StockX will release 250 free tickets per day from December 5th to December 7th on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Art of Hip Hop’s programming extends beyond the opening during Art Basel. Throughout the year, artofhiphop.com will continuously update with events and activities related to the four pillars of hip hop: MC’ing, breakdancing, graffiti, and DJing.

Deena Bahri, StockX CMO, expressed her excitement about the partnership, stating, “Since its inception, hip-hop has revolutionized sneaker culture. It is our privilege to work with The Museum of Graffiti to bring its exhibit to life and honor the community that has shaped it.”

Alan Ket, Curator and Co-founder of The Art of Hip Hop, added, “I fell in love with hip hop culture 40 years ago in the streets of New York. This historical exhibition belongs in Miami, a city known for innovation and creativity in all elements of hip hop.”

With its dedication to celebrating the visual arts of hip hop, The Art of Hip Hop promises an immersive experience for hip hop enthusiasts and art lovers alike. Stay connected with @artofhiphop50 on Instagram for updates and sneak peeks of what to expect.
