On Tuesday, November 30, 2010 Pamela Masik awed her audience with the raw energy that was felt during her live art performance of “Awakening” at Downtown Miami’s Marquis Residences Sky Pool Deck, to kick off Art Basel Miami Beach 2010.
The Marquis Residences Sky Pool Deck, located on the 14th floor of the 67-story building with Asian-inspired gardens, was truly a stunning setting for the evening. Guest enjoyed the sprawling views overlooking Key Biscayne as well as the delicious libations provided by Amuse, Marquis Residences’ world-class signature restaurant for contemporary cuisine.
A selection of Masik’s “Caged Bird” series lined the Sky Pool Deck walls and was the topic of conversation amongst guests. Guests had the exclusive privilege to enter into the private world of Masik’s imitable performance which she refers to as “the moment one loses oneself to find oneself.”
Along with the honored artist, Pamela Masik, notable Miami guests included: Alicia Cervera (CEO of Releated Cevera Reality Services), Candela Ferro (TV Personality), Frank Amadeo (President of Estefan Enterprises), Iran Issa-Khan (World Renowned Photographer), Jonathan & Criselda Breene (Co-Owners of Setai), Kothan Fernandez (Actor), Laura Buccelatti (Italian Handbag Designer), Lori Ordover (Managing Director Africa Israel USA), Rainer Becker (Founder & Co-Owner of Zuma), Rik & Raquel Watters (Founders & Owners of Rik Rak Salon), and Sam Robin (Sam Robin).
The cocktail soiree commenced Masik’s presence during Art Basel 2010 as the Masik pop-up gallery is now open through December 17th in the Wynwood Arts District (50 NW 29th Street). There will be two additional live art performances at the Masik gallery on December 3rd and 4th at 3 PM.
With this “Caged Bird” installation and performance, Masik has created a physical manifestation of the themes found in the collection. Through a series of disturbing yet alluring gestures and acts involving symbolic objects, Masik exposes a struggle with sexuality, boundaries and the illusions of security from a personal place while locked in the cage.
