Starting Friday, May 10, the Coral Gables Art Cinema presents the Exclusive Miami Premiere of noted French director François Ozon’s In The House. Oscar nominee Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient) gives a tour de force performance in a French-language role in this off-center, psychological cat-and-mouse-game. Full of the dark humor, sly manipulation of points-of-view, and sexuality outside-the-box that Ozon is known for – previous films include 8 Women and Swimming Pool – In the House has already played at the Toronto International Film Festival and San Sabastian International Film Festival. The film will screen in 2K Digital Cinema Projection.

Part thriller, part mystery, In the House also stars well-known French actor Fabrice Luchini, as a bored, misanthropic high-school literature teacher, with Thomas as his high-toned gallery-owning wife. He becomes fascinated by the creative-writing exercises being turned in by one of his male students, the charismatic, handsome and too smart for everyone’s good Claude, played by the young Ernst Umhauer. Claude is obsessed with the the seemingly perfect suburban family of a well-off classmate; with his teacher; and eventually his teacher’s wife, as the lines between reality and fiction begin to blur. Voyeurism and seduction, responsibility and bad behavior, drive the plot forward, in what USA Today says is a “…complex look at storytelling, imagination and the teacher-student dynamic…an elaborate cinematic fresco.”

Gables Cinema Director Robert Rosenberg says, “After our having a big hit with Ozon’s Potiche, we are excited to bring his newest clever and witty film to the Gables Cinema and South Florida audiences.” Tickets for all screenings are $11.50 and under and are available for purchase in advance on the Cinema’s website at www.gablescinema.com or in person at the box office during regular screening hours.
