Award-winning director Li Lu brings forth a gripping three-part documentary series titled “A Town Called Victoria.” The series delves into the heart of a small Texas town, exploring the aftermath of a devastating act of arson that targeted the local mosque.

Set to premiere on PBS with two back-to-back episodes on November 13th and an emotionally charged conclusion on November 14th, “A Town Called Victoria” seeks to shed light on the complex dynamics of community, resilience, and healing.

Victoria, a once-harmonious town in Texas, is thrust into the national spotlight when its cherished mosque is engulfed in flames. The aftermath reveals a deeply rooted history of prejudice and division within the community. As the investigation unfolds and a local man is arrested as the prime suspect, the people of Victoria must confront their troubled past and the consequences it has on their present.

“A Town Called Victoria” documents the trial of the suspect and captures the spirit of unity as the community rallies together to rebuild the mosque. Through interviews with residents, religious leaders, and local officials, the docuseries provides a nuanced portrayal of a town grappling with racial, religious, political, and economic divisions. Ultimately, it presents a story of resilience and hope as Victoria strives to overcome hate and find a collective way forward.

Directed by Li Lu, known for her powerful storytelling, “A Town Called Victoria” is a joint production of A Reel South and Independent Lens. The project is in association with the Center for Asian American Media and is brought to viewers by A Time and Place and Film Exchange Production.

The series features captivating cinematography by Halyna Hutchins, ASC (Episode 1) and Jason Gamble Harter (Episodes 2 & 3). The editing team, comprised of Mike Saenz, Marie Richardson, and Yasu Inoue, skillfully crafts the narrative alongside story editor Fahd Ahmed. The original music score is composed by the talented Jimmy LaValle.

Joining Li Lu in the production are producers Anthony Pedone and Li Lu, with executive oversight for PBS provided by Margaret Ebrahim. The team also includes co-producers Julian Higgins, Louise Henderson, Samir Ciali, and Zohaib Qadri, who have worked tirelessly to bring this powerful story to the screen.
