RUNNERS GET ON THEIR MARK FOR THE 2010 MERCEDES-BENZ MIAMI CORPORATE RUN

As the third largest 5k in Country, the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run, a three circuit 5K (3.1 mile) Run Walk that is produced by TeamFootWorks, will once again wind its way through the streets of Downtown Miami. With a special competition that awards the overall men’s, women’s and co-ed teams in 20 different industries, the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run Series attracts more than 800 South Florida Companies with more than 25,000 runners and walkers. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the run is open to employees of businesses, corporations, government agencies, financial institutions and non-profits-no matter how big or small. Everyone is encouraged to participate and may enter an unlimited number of employees to walk or run as a group.

As part of the tri-county race circuit, a portion of the proceeds from the Miami run will benefit the South Florida Chapter of the American Red Cross.

WHEN: Thursday, April 29, 2010. Race begins promptly at 6:45 p.m.

STREET

CLOSURES: Important – there will be several street closures the day of the Miami run.

Thurs., April 29, 2010:

4:00 p.m.:

Northbound lanes of Biscayne Blvd, from Chopin Plaza to NE 5th St. will close.

Southbound lanes will offer two-way traffic. Special attention will be given to the entry and exit of Chopin Plaza (Hotel Intercontinental and One Biscayne).

4:30 p.m.:

The first of the 20,000 expected participants will begin arriving – Traffic will increase.

5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.:

Participants continue to arrive – street detours/lane closures begin.

6:00 p.m.:

Northbound Brickell Ave traffic will be detoured west on SE 7th St.

Only traffic going to Hotel Intercontinental and One Biscayne will be allowed to cross the Brickell Bridge.

6:30 p.m.

The race course closes.

6:45 p.m. – 8:15 p.m.:

Actual race time.

9:30 p.m.:

Roadways, except for northbound Biscayne Blvd, will reopen.

11:00 p.m.:

Northbound Biscayne Blvd will reopen to traffic.

Please Note:

1.      Brickell Key, Claughton Island and eastbound 8th Street will detour onto SW 2nd Ave to SW 15th Road and will continue on to Bayshore Dr.

2.      Streets south of the Miami River should be clear of runners and walkers by approximately 7:30 p.m. and open to traffic. Streets north of the Miami River should be clear by approximately 7:50 p.m. Exiting downtown will be easiest via I-95.

NOTE: Media check-in will begin around 5:00 p.m. at the Joe’s Stone Crab Media Tent. Lead runners will return to the tent immediately following the run. If you would like to interview the top runners or members of additional corporate teams, we will be on site to help with this process.
