A collaboration spotlighting Miami’s women-led creative community transforms Sexy Fish’s iconic mermaids into high-fashion tributes to the world’s game.
As global attention turns to Miami for the FIFA World Cup, Sexy Fish Miami will unveil a one-of-a-kind artistic activation featuring its legendary mermaids reimagined in custom couture garments handcrafted from upcycled soccer jerseys, kits, scarves, and futbol-inspired materials. The Mermaids will begin their nightly performance in these high fashion looks beginning June 12, 2026, and continue to model seven different custom garments until the end of the World Cup on July 18th.
The project was conceived as part of Sexy Fish Miami’s initiative to engage and elevate local female entrepreneurs, artists, and creative leaders who help shape Miami’s cultural identity. This collaboration will kick off with an all-female business owner dinner on June 12th.
The activation is being creatively directed by Allison Freidin, entrepreneur and co-founder of Museum of Graffiti, who developed the concept and assembled a team of women-owned creative businesses to bring it to life.
Each bespoke look is being designed and constructed by Diana Dubinsky and her team, founder of DesignLab22 (DL22), the Wynwood-based creative studio known for its custom merchandise and high end reworked fashion. DL22 has built a reputation for transforming unexpected materials into meaningful works of art that celebrate community, culture, and sports
The World Cup is more than a sporting event—it is a global cultural phenomenon. By transforming discarded soccer apparel into wearable art, Sexy Fish is celebrating international fandom, sustainability, fashion, and Miami’s role as a crossroads of creativity and global culture.
The installation also highlights the power of women-led collaboration, bringing together hospitality, fashion, art, and design in a project that could only happen in Miami.
Mermaids are among the most recognizable symbols within the Sexy Fish universe. From monumental mermaid sculptures and aquatic-inspired interiors to live mermaid performances, the brand’s immersive underwater fantasy world is central to the restaurant’s identity. The Miami location was intentionally designed as a glamorous oceanic environment featuring towering mermaid sculptures, marine-inspired artwork, and theatrical elements that transport guests into an extravagant underwater realm.
For this special World Cup activation, those iconic mermaids become ambassadors of futbol culture, dressed in handcrafted couture that merges sport, fashion, sustainability, and Miami creativity.
