The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is a membership organization with over one million members, representing some of the world’s most renowned music creators. Founded and governed by its own composers and authors, it is the only copyright organization in the United States that operates as a not-for-profit entity. ASCAP licenses a repertoire of over 20 million musical works to hundreds of thousands of establishments that use music, including streaming services, cable television, radio, satellite radio, stores, hotels, clubs, restaurants, and bars, among other platforms. ASCAP collects licensing fees and provides efficient solutions for establishments to legally play ASCAP music and ensures that its composers and authors are fairly compensated. It matches and processes trillions of dollars in royalties annually and returns approximately 90 cents of every dollar in royalties to its members. The ASCAP license offers an efficient solution for businesses that legally play ASCAP music while respecting the rights of authors and composers, ensuring they receive fair compensation. ASCAP cares for its music creators, advocating for their rights and the value of music on Capitol Hill, leading efforts to advance music, building communities, and providing the resources and support creators need to succeed in their careers.
