The manager of the Cayey Bulls celebrated his team’s 1,000th victory and received recognition from the House of Representatives.

The leadership of artist and entrepreneur Llandel “ Yandel”Veguilla, who recently took over as owner of the Toritos de Cayey , was celebrated this week in Puerto Rico. His role with the team is more than just an administrative one; it’s a deeply personal project. As a fan of the team and a proud Cayey native, he decided to acquire the franchise to continue strengthening baseball in his hometown and supporting the sport’s development in the community.

The Cayey Toritos achieved their 1,000th victory in the history of the Double-A Superior Baseball League, becoming only the sixth team to reach this historic milestone. This achievement comes after 80 years of franchise history.

The team began the 2026 season with 997 accumulated victories. They subsequently achieved two consecutive wins: first against Caguas with a score of 3-1, and then against Aibonito with a score of 18-9, leaving them one win away from the historic record.

As part of this historic celebration, an official recognition ceremony was held in the Puerto Rico House of Representatives, an initiative of Representative Gretchen Hau, along with Speaker of the House Carlos “Johnny” Méndez. During the event, the team, its history, and the contributions of its players, managers, and technical staff to Puerto Rican baseball were recognized. Commemorative plaques and awards were presented to the team.

The 1,000th victory came after a game against the Bravos de Cidra, where the Toritos won 2-0. The game was a shutout achieved by the combination of pitchers Freddie Cabrera, who earned the win, and Rámesis Rosa, who pitched three innings to record the save.

The players who started and completed the match were: Nelson Molina, Richard González, Kevin Luciano, Iván de Jesús, Christian Torres, Osvaldo Torres, Jancarlos Colón, PJ Ortiz and Kelvin Joel Pérez, under the direction of the Cayeyan leader Ángel Ramón Santos.

The team’s operation is part of SOY UN DUROS SPORTS, a new initiative within Llandel’s business ecosystem that seeks to promote sports projects, foster opportunities for young athletes, and support the development of sports in Puerto Rico, particularly in communities where sports have historically been a social and cultural engine.

The achievement of the 1,000th victory for the Toritos de Cayey not only represents a historic moment for the franchise, but also the beginning of a new stage for the team under this vision of growth, community support and sports development.
