An Evening of Memory & Meaning: For the Living with Director Tim Roper

We invite you to join us for a deeply meaningful Screening the Holocaust program featuring For the Living, an official selection of MJFF 2025, onTuesday, December 9 at 7pm at the O Cinema South Beach, with director Tim Roper in attendance.

This screening carries special significance for our festival community as we present it in loving memory of Marc Bennett—a cherished friend, artist, and longtime supporter of the festival—whom we tragically lost to cancer this year. Marc’s work has graced our screens for years, including The Tattooed Torahand Who Are the Marcuses. We honor his legacy by sharing his final film and welcoming co-director Tim Roper, who will introduce the screening and join us for a post-film conversation.

For the Living follows the extraordinary story of Marcel Zielinski, a 10-year-old Holocaust survivor who in January 1945 walked 60 miles from Auschwitz-Birkenau to Krakow in search of his family. Decades later, 250 cyclists from 12 countries retrace his path in the Ride for the Living, an empathetic initiative created by JCC Krakow. The film draws powerful parallels between Marcel’s journey and the cyclists’ mission, prompting an urgent reflection on the enduring struggle between dehumanization and empathy.

We hope you’ll join us for this special evening of remembrance, reflection, and meaningful dialogue made possible with the support of the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach, the Holocaust Teacher’s Institute, and the University of Miami’s Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies.
