Called one of the best new comedies of 2009 by Time Magazine, Starz Entertainment’s hilarious original comedy series, “Party Down,” makes it second season debut on Friday, April 23 at 10 p.m. et/pt. New to the ensemble cast is Emmy-winning actress Megan Mullally (“Will & Grace,” Fame), who joins Adam Scott (recently cast in “Parks and Recreation,” Indie Spirit Award Best Actor nominee for The Vicious Kind), Ken Marino, Lizzy Caplan, Martin Starr and Ryan Hansen in this half-hour program about a group of Los Angeles cater-waiters yearning for a shot at their dreams of stardom.
Consisting of struggling dreamers, the “Party Down” catering team is stuck serving others while still determined to make it to the top. Each week, when they mingle with the rich, famous and not so famous, they see their lives as they could be while they hover around the glitz and glamour of Hollywood’s movers and shakers. They dabble in their drama from the periphery and then judge them, joke about them, envy them, wish they could be just like them and then move on to the next catering event. These are the people who have passed up traditional, normal lives of 9 to 5 or a family for a shot at their dreams and a chance to “be somebody.” With the exception of the ruefully jaded and cynical Henry (played by Scott), everyone on the crew assumes that life with “Party Down” isn’t the real thing – it’s just a brief stop before their bigger and better lives start.
This season, the ten-original half-hour episodes feature guest stars including Jane Lynch (“Glee”), Kristen Bell (“Veronica Mars”), J.K. Simmons, Joey Lauren Adams, Steve Guttenberg, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Thomas Lennon, Jimmi Simpson, Loretta Devine and Alex Rocco. The series was created and executive produced by Rob Thomas (“Veronica Mars”), John Enbom, Dan Etheridge and actor Paul Rudd. Childhood actor, Fred Savage (“The Wonder Years”) directs many of the episodes and serves as supervising producer; Bryan Gordon is another supervising producer. “Party Down” actors, Adam Scott and Ken Marino take on additional roles this season as producer and director of season finale, respectively.
The series is produced by Starz Media. Season one of “Party Down” will be released on DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment on April 6.
