AN EVENING OF ITALIAN OPERA SCENES

AN EVENING OF ITALIAN OPERA SCENES

October 26, 27; 7PM

Miami-Dade County Auditorium

2901 W Flagler Street, Miami

Free and open to the public

The New World School of the Arts Opera Theater Ensemble will perform an evening of Italian opera scenes. Throughout the evening, the college voice students will sing and act fully staged trios, duets, and quartets by different composers: Mozart, Donizetti, and Verdi to name a few. Each scene will be accompanied by NWSA music alumna and collaborative coach and pianist, Maria Zdralea. Dr. Megan Barrera, NWSA alumna and faculty will be directing the fourteen participating singers. She noted, “Our goal is that through these performances our students feel empowered to continue to learn different operatic languages and that they continue to explore the art of storytelling through these different languages. They have worked hard preparing this music. I’m proud of their achievements and I look forward to watching the live performance.”

Many voice students spend hours rehearsing their own solo music for juries or solo performances. While studying scenes, they experience true collaboration with their scene partners and pianist while rehearsing. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to explore character development as they stage their scenes which is excellent preparation for the fully staged opera in the Spring semester.
