Impermanence, this year’s BFA Concert, will present exciting new works by NWSA college seniors in a varied range of choreographic styles, influenced and inspired by each choreographer’s unique lived experience, and danced by the accomplished dancers of New World School of the Arts. Sophia Del Risco’s “Missing in Action” is an engaging and lighthearted jazz dance in which we follow a dancer’s search for her missing gloves; Ajaya Williams’ “Chrysalis” is a kaleidoscopic exploration of movement styles varying from contemporary to acrobatic and utilizing geometrical pathways and patterns, set to beautiful but ominous music, and creating an eerily psychedelic ambiance. Set to the music of three Chilean composers, “De Sur a Norte,” Fernanda Alvarado’s contemporary work, is inspired by her own cultural heritage and experience moving from her home country to the U.S. Nyla Walker’s “Coming Home” is influence by her Black American culture and features twenty dancers telling a story of growth, healing, and connection. These are just a few of the works on this outstanding program of dance.
