WHEN WINE AND COMEDY COLLIDE! “SWALLOW THIS” BY MARK PHILLIPS DEBUTS AT EQ3 MIAMI
Resident wine expert and comedian from PBS Television provides a progressive approach to wine during a free public tasting workshop in Midtown Miami
Mark Phillips, the country’s only comic wine expert, will be giving a free public wine seminar and tasting workshop at EQ3 Miami, the newest retail location and showroom to hit the U.S from Canada’s pioneering lifestyle concept for innovative and affordable home furnishings, on Monday, January 25th in Midtown Miami.
Mark Phillips is one of the nation’s most popular wine speakers. The main reason for his popularity is that he has such a humorous, non-snobby approach to wine that resonates with the wine consumer. He is the founder of the Progressive Approach to wine, which is a modern and practical approach to wine versus the traditional approach given by other wine experts.
PBS asked him to host a wine special which made its debut in March 2006. The show, “Enjoying Wine with Mark Phillips” shattered all records by being picked up by over 300 stations. The show was originally scheduled to air for just two years but was continued for another two years, through 2010.
His new book, “Swallow This” was released in November 2009. Swallow This debunks many of the “truths” about wine that are commonly accepted as well as offering a practical, no-nonsense guide to enjoying wine.
Phillips has developed several wine related products including an 8 CD Audio Wine Course, “Ice Cubes in Wine – a fun, yet informative DVD, a Pocket Wine Journal and the Mark Phillips Wine Glass which is the ultimate wine glass, made of hand-blown crystal yet dishwasher safe.
Currently, Phillips is the Executive Director of the Wine Tasting Association (WTA) whose mission is to educate consumers about wine. Previously, Phillips was the featured wine speaker for the Queen Elizabeth 2’s Wine and Food Theme Cruise and transatlantic crossing. He was so well received, the QE2 asked him to be the featured wine speaker on the Chef’s Palate cruise the following year and co-starred with Julia Child for her last public appearance. He has gone on to speak on several other cruises.
Stories about Phillips have appeared in the Washingtonian, Washington Post, Washington Times, Marie Claire, The Hill and USA Today. And when ABC News, Reuters News Service, Forbes, National Public Radio, FOX TV, NBC, PBS and the Smithsonian need a wine expert, Phillips is called to give an expert’s view.
