Join the City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department during this service learning program mobilizing student to restore the endangered ecosystem!

Alice Wainwright Park contains one of the remnant fragments of historical Brickell Hammock, one the largest and most diverse Rockland hammocks on the South Florida mainland. These upland hardwood forests occur only in south Florida and along the Florida coastlines. Once wide spread, today tropical hardwood hammocks occur primarily as remnant habitats in extreme South Florida and in small preserves along the southern Atlantic coast.

Volunteer Day Main Tasks:

  • Debris removal
  • Exotic Invasive Plant removal
  • Park Clean up

Important Volunteer Information:

Please be on time, registration begins 15 minutes before workday starts, during orientation clear instructions will be provided, please pay attention.

  • Please Bring:
    • Refillable water bottle. Stay hydrated and be prepared to work outside!
    • Closed-toe shoes are required and long-sleeved shirts are and long pants are recommended.
    • A hat, sun block and insect repellent (recommended)
  • Children under 17 years of age must be accompanied by an adult
