Brownes Merchants & Trading Co. is bringing the spirit of Miami Beach’s Art Basel to the South Beach salon featuring pieces for sale by owner Gary Feinberg and late artist Purvis Young, curated by Rob Alas.
Take a breather from your Wednesday, Thursday and Friday itinerary and stop by Brownes’ South Beach salon located at 1688 Jeffereson Avenue for a complimentary glass of wine and a dry manicure from 4-5 p.m. Guests can “nail” the perfect Basel polish thanks to the salon’s luxurious selection of top-of-the-line lacquers including Essie and an assortment of Nars shades exclusive to Brownes.
Purvis Young was a self-taught urban artist from the Overtown neighborhood of Miami. Young’s work, often a blend of collage and painting, utilizes found objects and the experience of African Americans in the south. Painting for more than 30 years, Brownes ownerGary Feinberg’s work embraces geometric abstraction and oil on canvas. Two local artists influenced by the same sounds, streets, colors and rhythms of Miami, Rob Alas curates their work and decorates the salon in their jazzy blues and yellows. Geometric and figurative abstractions blend in the stories these two are telling.
Brownes is known for their arrangement of eclectic artwork in their salons, and one of their most memorable paintings showcasing a pair of soft, pink ballet slippers is available for purchase at the soirée.
