Celebrating and raising investments for the future of our community, Breakthrough Miami will host its 7th Annual Support-A-Scholar Celebration on Saturday, November 9, 2019. The event is hosted by Board Chair Jeffrey Miller, and wife Tina at their residence on Miami’s Venetian Islands, where supporters from across five leading independent school communities will be welcomed by three-time Emmy-award winning Entertainment and Lifestyle Reporter for WFOR, CBS4 Lisa Petrillo. Attendees will join corporate and community partners to raise funds to ensure motivated yet under-resourced youth have a more level playing field of opportunities, networks, mentorship and resources to reach their dreams.

Each Fall the Breakthrough “Village” comes together across five independent schools and the University of Miami, corporate, professional and community partners and networks, to generate nearly one fifth of the organization’s operating budget. A special annual Breakthrough tradition, Support-A-Scholar is a casually chic, hip and energetic party — not your average gala. With cutting-edge performances, dancing under the stars on the grand veneitian islands, gourmet bites, top-shelf beverages, and a “vintage mobile bar”, Support-A-Scholar is the season’s ultimate “party with a purpose”, igniting the investments to deliver an award-winning program.
“The development of Miami’s educational opportunities’ landscape is one that will continue to evolve and improve over time,” said Lori-Ann Cox, CEO of Breakthrough Miami. “Every year, our Support-A-Scholar celebration gives us an opportunity to pay tribute to Breakthrough Miami’s legacy, highlight our mission, the organizations, the companies, the donors and the alums that have supported us throughout the year, while allowing us to reflect on how far we’ve come together as a village.”
Breakthrough Miami has delivered an unparalleled out-of-school academic and social enrichment program for nearly 30 years to prepare under-resourced students to enter and succeed in college. Named Best Summer Learning Program (2018) in the US by the National Summer Learning Association, Breakthrough’s eight-year, tuition-free program uses a students-teaching-students model designed to Increase academic opportunity for highly motivated, underserved students and propel them on the trajectory of a successful college path; and inspire and develop the next generation of teachers and educational leaders. Philanthropic investors in Breakthrough Miami are enabling the organization to increase Florida’s talent equity, fostering the next generation of leaders and promoting new stories of 21st century prosperity.
