(Documentary directed by TAMALYN DALLAL/USA/2011/80mins.)

World acclaimed dancer, author, filmmaker, and founder of Miami’s Mid Eastern Dance Exchange, Tamalyn Dallal, has once again captured a rare art-form in her new film Zanzibar Dance, Trance and Devotion, which will have it’s world premiere at the Miami Beach Cinematheque. With this spectacular anthology of traditional dances from the East African island of Zanzibar, Dallal documented a group of former clove farmers from the island of Pemba as they showed the rarely seen dances of harvest, rhythmic stick fighting, and others that called forth the spirits. Zanzibar Dance, Trance, and Devotion is a priceless collection of heritage that is of interest to scholars, dancers and those who want to experience vibrant dance and music in one of the most exotic places on earth.
