South Florida pet owners can now party likes its 1969 when the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort hosts Woofstock: A Festival for Dogs, celebrating canine love on Thursday, January 27, 2011, from 7 to 10 p.m.
This unique, pet-friendly party will feature cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a red carpet, doggie fashion show by Kane and Couture from New York, look-a-like contests and all the music that made Woodstock memorable. Many of the music legends of that era actually played at the Newport’s Seven Seas Lounge including Jimi Hendrix. In addition, pet communicator Cynthia Segal will also tell guests what their dog is thinking.
With a $10 admission cost, guests will receive a complimentary cocktail, free valet parking and a raffle ticket. A portion of the proceeds raised will benefit a local, no-kill shelter.
Costume contests will also allow proud pet owners to showcase their furry friends in the following categories for a fee of $10: best hippie fashion for a dog, best hippie dog and owner costume ensemble and top Woofstock dog talent. Eight hundred dollars in contest prizes will be awarded including a pet-friendly stay at the Newport Beachside Hotel & Resort, dinner at Kitchen 305, pampering treatments at the Seven Seas Aveda Spa, pet luggage and gift certificates to various pet couture shops. Well-known pet photographer, Tina Valant, will be on site to capture pet owners and their four-legged friends in a special photo opportunity.
Woofstock: A Festival for Dogs, sponsored by the Pet Chamber of Commerce, Dogs Are OK magazine and other local vendors, kicks off the Newport’s monthly Yappy Happy Hour events where people are invited to party with their pets.
