Community friends – including pets – are invited to take a step against domestic violence at the Women In Distress 13th Annual SAFEWALK-RUN 5K presented by Pollo Tropical® on Oct. 29 at Markham Park in Sunrise.
Morning radio deejays “Those 2 Girls In The Morning” Tamara G. and Julie Guy, as well as Celebrity Guests the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders will kick things off at 7:30 AM with a kids sprint, followed by a timed race for runners and a more leisurely stroll for walkers, strollers and pets. Also, new at this year’s event are a vendor village, children’s activities with a focus on health, wellness and family fun, and a special category for dogs to join the walk.
Other major sponsors include Panera Bread, Sun Sentinel, JM Family Enterprises, Inc., Southeast Toyota, and BankAtlantic. The SAFEWALK caps a series of events that will be held during October, to create awareness about domestic violence and the help that is available through Women In Distress.
“As we enter this new chapter in our agency’s 37th year with the move to our new, expanded Jim and Jan Moran Family Center in Deerfield Beach, we celebrate our participants and their families who have walked through our doors and are proud to now be able to serve so many more in need, “ says Mary Riedel, WID President & CEO. “The SAFEWALK-RUN 5K is a great way to bring our community together in support of those families and to raise awareness about domestic violence abuse. I invite everyone to join us in taking that step to end domestic violence.”
“Pollo Tropical is committed to support Women In Distress and is proud to have our brand associated with the SAFEWALK-RUN 5K. This event raises awareness that domestic violence is a significant problem in our community, and it’s important to Pollo Tropical that we stand beside WID as a partner in their mission to keep families safe,” says Kim Miller, Pollo Tropical Vice President Marketing & Communications.
