What’s Hot in Ireland from The Doyle Collection

The ‘Emerald Isle’ is having a moment. Luxury travel network Virtuoso named it one of the top 10 most popular destinations for summer travel. The Irish family-owned Doyle Collection has properties in #1 and #2 cities, Dublin and Cork. Here’s the latest and greatest from The Westbury and The River Lee.

CITY LIGHTS & COUNTRY NIGHTS | DUBLIN & SCOTLAND

The Westbury in Dublin is teaming up with the Scottish countryside estate, Gleneagles, to offer travelers a seamless city & country experience with two nights in Dublin and three nights in Scotland. Highlights from the package (which includes transportation between Dublin and Edinburgh) include a culinary walking tour of Dublin, a wine-paired dinner at WILDE at The Westbury (recently named to the Wine Spectator Awards of Excellence 2019), and activities such as clay shooting, archery, and falconry coordinated by Gleneagles’ ‘Playground Planner’ VIP concierge service.

TOP-TO-BOTTOM RENOVATION | CORK

The River Lee relaunched in Spring 2019 in Cork with the opening of The River Club Bar and Restaurant and The Cocktail Bar, along with redesign of the hotel’s lobby by designers O’Donnell O’Neill. The hotel’s 182 bedrooms will all be renovated over the course of the year, with the first 10 rooms already complete. Cork, considered the foodie capital of Ireland, is set to become a tourism hotspot in the coming years, with a 116-billion-euro development plan to bolster the population and step out of Dublin’s shadow. This year alone, three of the city’s restaurants received their first Michelin star (the most of any city in Ireland) and also opened its first ‘nanobrewery.’

DRAMA IN DUBLIN | DUBLIN

Theatre buffs visiting The Westbury can explore the theatrical sites and history of Dublin with the new complimentary Theatre Walking Tour every Thursday morning with Abbey Theatre tour guide James Hickson. The 90-minute stroll begins in the vibrant Georgian Quarter and brings guests to key sites around the city, including a behind-the-scenes look at Abbey Theatre, a lesson on ancient Irish storytelling at the Setanta Wall, and a look at the theatrical artwork within the National Gallery. Along the way, guests will get to see sculptures of Phil Lynotl and Oscar Wilde and check out St. Stephen’s Green with spaces dedicated to Irish artists.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES AT THE MoLI | DUBLIN

Dublin’s much-anticipated Museum of Literature (MoLI) will open in late-September 2019 featuring a collection of Irish novelist James Joyce’s works, including the famous Copy No. 1 of Ulysses. For exclusive behind-the-scenes access, The Westbury will offer a White Glove Tour, including complimentary museum passes and a privately guided tour.

LONDON LEGENDS | DUBLIN

To celebrate the launch of its new cocktail menu, The Westbury’s Art Deco bar, The Sidecar, will welcome three legends of London’s cocktail world for a three-night takeover September 24-26 and October 1-3. Hailing from Kwānt bar, Artesian, and The Connaught, head mixologists Erik Lorincz, Remy Savage, and Ago Perrone (respectively) will serve two signature cocktails each showcasing their own style and cocktail philosophy – alongside two creations from the new menu launched by head bartender Michael Lis.

PERRIER-JOUET X HELEN STEELE | DUBLIN

The Westbury’s sunlit, terrace-style restaurant overlooking the bustling streets of Dublin, WILDE, is teaming up with Irish designer and artist, Helen Steele and Champagne producer, Perrier-Jouët to create a floral-inspired installation. Throughout August and September, Helen’s signature colorful and wild floral design will adorn the restaurant along with a specially designed menu featuring a range of bubbly from Perrier-Jouët.
