Virginia Key Beach Park Trust and the Biscayne Nature Center Create Eco-History Partnership

The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust (VKBPT) would like to announce their recent partnership with the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center (BNC). The recent collaborations is a joint venture in expanding the existing Seagrass Adventures at the City of Miami’s Historic Virginia Key Beach Park (HVKBP) located on Virginia Key (4020 Virginia Key Drive, Miami, FL 33149). The series will be held from now through the summer or fall.

While daily local efforts are made to educate and inform the community of the environment that surrounds them, this partnership allows for a closer, more detailed look at the history of Historic Virginia Key Beach Park and the impact its had on the community and the environment. Together, this provides participants a double dose of nature, knowledge and fun!

At each adventure, a naturalist will serve as a guide and teaching instructor, introducing participants to a variety of creatures and the wildlife that surrounds them. Completely hands-on, explorers will be able to search the waters for sea-life they can catch with a net. They will then gather on the open beach to display and discuss what they’ve found.

In addition, HVKBP serves as the perfect location for fun and learning, providing its visitors with an all natural beach, amusement rides, environmental attractions and enough history to go around. Participants will be able to enjoy a lesson on the how the park established its title as Miami’s ‘Colored Only Beach’ in 1945, and how its made its way to becoming a park for everyone and one of Miami’s largest recreational landmarks.

BNC’s Seagrass Adventures are $12 per person and are held for individuals or groups of 10-100 people. For reservations call 305-361-6767 x119 or email info@BiscayneNatureCenter.org.
