US Premiere of DARK BLOOD

Actor Alfredo Castro was on stage for the highly charged Q&A at the Gusman Center’s sold out screening for Chile’s first Oscar-nominated drama, No, (based on the play “The Referendum” by Antonio Skarmeta), about the 1988 referendum on Pinochet’s long-term grip on the presidency and the unorthodox methods of the “no” side’s ad campaign. Directed by Pablo Larraín and starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Alfredo Castro.

Actors Miguel Angel Muñoz and Gabriela de la Garza wowed the crowd for the U.S. Premiere HBO Latin America’s third season of the intense drama, “Capadocia”, where a Mexico City jail controlled by elite members of ESCO Corporation are fueled by clashing powers of the prison leader who knows Capadocia’s worst secrets.

Susan Seidelman shared her latest work, The Hot Flashes, about a group of Texan women who form a basketball team to raise money for breast cancer prevention starring Brooke Shields, Darryl Hannah, Wanda Sykes, Virginia Madsen and Eric Roberts, followed by a party hosted by Books & Books Coral Gables. Director Carlos Jaureguialzo for his second screening of the drama Marriage (following its World Premiere at MIFF this past Sunday)  about a married couple struggling to keep their union afloat; based loosely on  James Joyce’s “Ulysses” starring Cecilia Roth and Dario Grandinetti.

Director Jeanine Meerapfel, returns to MIFF following her 1990 screening of, The Girlfriend, starrring Liv Ullman, for both screenings of her latest film, My German Friend, where a young Jewish woman falls in love with the son of German Nazis hiding in Buenos Aires after the war. Actor Patrice Dubois flew in from Canada for intro and Q&A of Camion, where a father and his two estranged sons are brought together by a tragic road accident, and out of despair find a new way to hope again.
