The URWERK EMC, a standout in the watchmaking world, marked its 10th anniversary by unveiling a limited edition inspired by the iconic SR-71 reconnaissance aircraft. Originally released in 2014, the EMC garnered multiple accolades, winning the “Mechanical Exception” and “Innovation” categories at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève, as well as being named “Watch of the Year” by Revolution Asia and “Best of the Best” by Robb Report USA.
The EMC features a unique design that combines traditional mechanical functions with an innovative δ performance indicator, allowing users to assess their watch’s chronometric precision in real time. This groundbreaking functionality set it apart as the first mechanism enabling wearers to measure their watch’s performance directly.
The idea for the SR-71-themed model arose in December 2020 when watch collector Jason Sarkoyan and aeronautical engineer Dr. Roman Sperl visited URWERK’s Geneva headquarters with pieces of the SR-71 fuselage. Over three years, they collaborated on a design that melds fine watchmaking with aeronautical engineering, resulting in a ten-piece limited series that incorporates materials from the legendary aircraft.
The EMC SR-71 features a titanium case, a charging crank made from SR-71 alloy, and a dial resembling the aircraft’s cockpit instruments. It includes four dials for various timekeeping functions, all designed to reflect the precision of both the watch and the aircraft. The watch is powered by an in-house URWERK movement with an 80-hour power reserve and incorporates advanced technology for performance monitoring.
The price for the EMC SR-71 is CHF 150,000, and it showcases the fusion of horological excellence and aerospace innovation, promising an exhilarating experience for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
