UPCOMING UM OSHER LIFELONG LEARNING INSTITUTE AT MIAMI SHORES

University of Miami’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will host classes at Miami Shores location for seniors in North Miami area from November 1 to December 10, 2010.

WHEN/SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

Memoir Writing (Part 2) – This class will teach and encourage students at age 50+, to record and describe, for posterity, the events of their individual lives.

Mondays at 10:00 to 11:45 am

The History of Photography I: The 1800s – Students will study the development of photography across the globe beginning in the 1800s. Students will also track its usage as a tool for “realism” and documentation, its relationship to painting and the arts, and the birth of photojournalism.

Wednesdays at 10:00 to 11:45 am

Drawing –  Students will work on still life drawings using common objects in the “Graphite Class” OR students will draw natural movement within their artwork using clay based pencil whose original colors are black, red, and brown in the “Conte Class.”

Wednesdays at 10:00 to 11:45 am (Graphite) OR 6:00 to 7:45 pm (Conte)

Creative Writing – Students will focus on different genres of writing including children’s dialogue, first-person perspective and memory. Students will be assigned an exercise of 500 – 800 words each week to be completed at home and then shared in class

Wednesdays at 7:00 to 8:45 pm

Europe and Its Future – Students in this class will examine the rise and possibly the fall of European nations and organizations on the world stage.

Thursdays at 10:00 to 11:45 am

Friday Foreign Film and Food – Students will enjoy an international themed dinner and an foreign movie from France (November 12) or Italy (December 3)

Fridays at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm
