Univision’s Natalia Cruz Celebrates 20 Year Television Career

On Thursday, Aug. 22, Natalia Cruz’s television legacy will be celebrated with a grand event hosted by Natalia’s husband, Jairo Cruz, BARÚ Urbano Doral, Aguila and publicist Jennifer Heegaard, president of JEJE Consulting. The award-winning journalist, reporter and host of Univision has worked for some of the most important media outlets in Colombia and the United States. The celebration will be held at BARÚ Urbano Doral, 11402 NW 41st Street, Doral, FL 33178, beginning at 8 p.m. with a red carpet.

Born in Barranquilla, Colombia, to journalist parents, Cruz got her start in radio, working on “Emisora Atlántico” while studying communications and journalism at Universidad del Norte. She began her television career at age 17 as a local news reporter for Telecaribe’s “CV Noticias.” Cruz’s debut on Colombian national television came in 1999 as a host and reporter for the variety show “Extra” on Canal Caracol. In 2000, she came to the United States with her husband, where she continued her career on Spanish public television. She later worked at Univisión’s “Despierta América” and “Sábado Gigante” before taking the desk as evening news anchor on Telemundo, New York. Cruz’s talent, training and high-quality work has earned her Emmy® Awards for Best News Anchor, Best Newscast and Best Series of Social Interest, among other awards. Her coverage of the September 11 attacks are mentioned in the book “Running Toward Danger,” and her reporting from Ground Zero is part of an exhibition in Washington D.C.’s Newseum. Cruz currently lives in Miami, where she works as a reporter for Univisión news magazine “Primer Impacto” and hosts “Noticiero Univisión” Weekend and “Al Punto.” She continues to contribute reports to “Despierta América”, “Primer Impacto” and “Noticiero Univisión.”

Lil Duey, accordionist, singer and songwriter, is the grandson of legendary Colombian folk singer Maestro Lisandro Meza. He began writing his own music at age 12, and in just a few years has established himself as a powerful singer, songwriter and musician on path to a promising career. Lil Duey has worked with former members of Proyecto Uno and shared the stage with Tito Rojas, Fulanito, DJ Alex Sensation, Jorge Celedón, Peter Manjarrés, Marlon Moreno (El Capo) and many more. Lil Duey is working on his new song “The Night,” which features the great artist Julio Voltio (El Chamaco). As a special tribute to Natalia Cruz, father and son will share the stage in this special night.

Aneudy Lara is a musician, actor and Dominican model, formerly of the band Local 34, who became internationally known for his roles in several soap operas. He has appeared in advertising campaigns for internationally recognized companies and music videos for renowned music personalities such as Chino & Nacho and Ricky Martin. Lara is working on his first album as a soloist.

Andres Zapata is a Colombian singer based in West Palm Beach, Florida. He discovered his vocal talent at an early age, and has been developing it since. In 1997 he recorded two albums as a member of the band Latin Line in Medellin, Colombia. In 2000, he moved to the United States, where his launched a solo career, appearing on Univision’s “Sabado Gigante.” In 2003 he won in the Latin singer category at the AMTC (American Modeling and Talent Convention), after which he signed with Sweetheart Records. His 2009 Latin pop rock album “My New Life” blends rock with Latin style, and features his acclaimed cover of “Malagueña Salerosa.”
