On Wednesday January 27th, United Way of Broward County Commission on Substance Abuse’s (UWBCCSA) Weston Alliance for Youth (WAY) kicked off WAY Week with an assembly for all the sixth graders at Tequesta Trace Middle School in Weston, Fla. WAY Week runs from January 27th through February 3rd, and its mission is to empower the Weston community to protect youth and families from risk factors associated with alcohol and other drugs by encouraging emotional wellness.
At the assembly, students heard messages from United Way of Broward County Commission on Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Lois Simpson, Captain Kevin Butler of the Weston Broward Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Kari Palloto of the Weston Broward Sheriff’s Office about the importance of leading a substance abuse free life and seeking help for themselves or anyone they know who is struggling with those issues.
