TORO Latin Kitchen & Tequila Library, the tantalizing and contemporary culinary destination inside Le Méridien Dania Beach, congratulates Tequila Master Daniel Salgado for taking First Place in the Mixology Competition as part ofMezcal Lauderdale, which was billed as “The Largest Celebration of Mezcal in Florida.” The tasty event was held June 2-5 at Canyon / Rio’s Tequila Bar in Fort Lauderdale.

Attendees were encouraged to try their favorite as well as discover new brands—all while getting to know more about the various Mezcals from experts taking them on the ultimate taste tour.

“After submitting a video for entry, Daniel Salgado was chosen for the finals and made it through three rounds of competition, coming in first after each round,” boasts Doug Hope, General Manager of Le Méridien Dania Beach. ‘For the last round, contestants were given a secret ingredient (Salted Crickets) that they had to use for the final cocktail. Daniel won by making a Roasted Pineapple Ranch Water with a Salted Cricket Rim. We are extremely honored to have him as Tequila Master at La Biblioteca de Tequila & Toro Latin Kitchen & Grill.”

Salgado joined TORO in February 2022 as Tequila Librarian, bringing professional experience earned in Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and New York. The upscale establishment is under the direction of internationally acclaimed Chef/Owner Richard Sandoval—hailed as the “Father of Modern Mexican Cuisine”—who has assembled an extraordinary collection of tequilas, mezcals, and agave spirits and aspires to educate diners on their quality and diversity.

Both stylish and comfortable, TORO’s Tequila Library is a dim, cozy space that mimics the look and feel of a library adorned with leather books, reading lamps, and a tequila “library card” program. More than 400 bottles align the walls—all organized in categories supporting the library theme—featuring distilled beverages from famed haciendas, small batch distillers and artisanal producers.

In addition to the wide variety of drink selections, among the special offerings at TORO’s La Biblioteca are Tequila Tastings, including:

+ Vertical Tastings: different aging techniques in three different tequilas from the same family

+ Horizontal Tastings: comparing tequilas produced by three different distilling families

+ Premium Tastings: a pre-fixe selection of high-end tequilas

+ Mezcal Tastings: made with smoked green agave

TORO also offers tasty happy hour menu items from traditional guacamole, smoked swordfish dip, and chips and salsa to such tasty temptations as Peruvian chicken, corn empanadas, beef anticuchos, and carnitas quesadilla.

Located at 1825 Griffin Road in Dania Beach (33004), TORO Latin Kitchen & Grill is open 5 to 10 pm, Wednesday-Saturday, while La Biblioteca de Tequila is open 5 to 10 pm, Tuesday-Saturday. For more information, please visit www.torodaniabeach.com.
