Tiffany & Co. opens a store in Miami’s Design District

Tiffany & Co. today celebrated the opening of an approximately 3,900-square-foot store in Miami’s Design District, a historic area of the city that has been transformed into a global center of art, design and culture, with luxury shopping and a vibrant nightlife.

“Tiffany is well established in Miami, and we are thrilled to now open in the city’s thriving Design District,” said Tiffany vice president Jonathan Bruckner. “The store is unique in its kind, and features important works by talented artists selected by our Design Director, Francesca Amfitheatrof, in tribute to the vision and creativity that have made Miami’s Design District a top destination for residents and tourists alike. All are welcome to discover our renowned collections and to enjoy a shopping experience that is unrivalled among the world’s jewelers.”

Tiffany designers and architects have created a modern store environment, with elements of Art Deco and 1930s glamour—the perfect showcase for the world’s most beautiful diamonds. The exquisite stones are arrayed in engagement rings, the ultimate symbols of true love, and jewels with rare colored diamonds, including Tiffany Yellow Diamonds. Beauty shines too in the bejeweled masterpieces of Jean Schlumberger, sculptural jewelry of Elsa Peretti and the colorful collections of Paloma Picasso. Customers will also discover the new Tiffany T collection, created by Amfitheatrof with all the energy and optimism of New York City.

The façade of fluted gray limestone and polished black granite is inspired by the streamlined architecture of American Deco skyscrapers of the 1930s and ’40s. A striking interpretation of the iconic Atlas clock stands above the entrance. This mirrored sculpture is the work of New York-based artist David Altmejd, who is known for creating highly abstracted glass “colossi.”

The store’s three jewelry salons are seamlessly designed with gleaming white and cream lacquer walls surrounding stainless steel display cases finished with the Art Deco fluting that embellishes the Fifth Avenue store’s great entry doors. This minimalist theme is further reflected in the fine jewelry salon’s white stone floors, cerused bleached oak paneling and bold contrast of emerald green and black leather custom furnishings; and the fashion salon’s gallery-like atmosphere, including a 20-foot skylight and polished metal wall with a faceted mirror in the Miami Art Deco style.

Miami Deco’s palette of jewel tones and pastels are featured in Richard Louderback’s contemporary mural installed near the private sales salon. The salon is elegantly appointed with plush furnishings, glazed linen walls, panels of wisteria in white gold and black lacquer and magnolias blossoming in gold sconces handcrafted by Miami-born artist Michele Oka Doner. These floral patterns are inspired by the stained glass masterworks of Louis Comfort Tiffany, son of the company’s founder and a legendary artist and designer.

A mirrored radial pattern from the Deco era highlights a curved staircase that connects the store’s two levels. Artwork lining the staircase varies from contemporary sketches to archival prints, all depicting Tiffany’s rich history as New York’s first and greatest jeweler. Belgian photographer Antoine Rose captures the very picture of glamour in an image of New York at night that is installed at the base of the stairs.

Other artworks include two paintings by Swedish artist Paul Fägerskiöld, whose patterns of minuscule dots give the impression of monochrome works that constantly change colors; and a painting by Berlin-based Thilo Heinzmann in a palette of blues—from sapphire to Tiffany Blue—that distinguishes Tiffany stores around the world.
