From Fernando Trueba and Javier Mariscal, the directors of the Academy Award nominated Chico & Rita, comes the celebratory origin story of Bossa Nova.

Following a New York music journalist (voiced by Jeff Goldblum) who goes on a quest to uncover the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of young Brazilian piano virtuoso Tenório Jr., this vibrant film captures a fleeting time bursting with creative freedom at a turning point in Latin American history in the 60s and 70s, just before the continent was engulfed by totalitarian regimes.

This animated docudrama features Brazilian music from João Gilberto, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Vinicius de Moraes and Paulo Moura.

Screenings include a pre-recorded introduction by Fernando Trueba.

“Over the years, Trueba has quietly, steadily built one of the most stylistically diverse filmographies in world cinema. This is another terrific entry. Try to see it on a big screen if you can. And if you can’t, be sure to play it loud.” —Matt Zoller Seitz, RogerEbert.com
