Synopsis: When an unidentified hiker is found deceased in the Florida wilderness, authorities release a sketch. Multiple hikers call in claiming to have met the man. There’s only one problem – he never told them his name. It would take two years, thousands of devoted internet sleuths, and a miracle of science to identify him- that’s when the trouble really started. A character-centric reimagining of a classic true crime genre, THEY CALLED HIM MOSTLY HARMLESS is about finding yourself when you’re looking for someone else.
Patricia E Gillespie is an award winning documentary filmmaker. She worked as a producer on the Emmy nominated, Oscar shortlisted documentary UNREST, as well as the Peabody nominated film WHOSE STREETS? Both films premiered at Sundance 2017, where UNREST took home a special jury award. THE DEVIL YOU KNOW is Patricia’s directorial debut.
In her spare time, Patricia produces and directs commercials for clients like Nike, Adidas, Johnnie Walker and more. She also occasionally serves as a professor, most recently for NYU’s documentary film program in Havana, Cuba.
