Saturday, December 7th
8pm – 11pm
The Standard Poolside at The Standard Spa, Miami Beach
40 Island Ave
Miami Beach, Florida
by invite only, and not open to the public
On Saturday, December 7th. Elmgreen & Dragset will hold a one-night residency at The Standard Spa, incorporating well-known motifs from their artwork throughout the venue, while enjoying complimentary drinks and bites, with DJ sets by Wolf + Lamb.
The event celebrates the debut of the Bent Pool, Elmgreen & Dragset’s latest public sculpture: a 20-foot-high upright arching swimming pool, now permanently located in Pride Park, facing the Miami Beach Convention Center. The work is the last of six substantial site-specific works of art to be installed at the Miami Beach Convention Center as part of the Art in Public Places Program. Elmgreen & Dragset will take this opportunity to celebrate the new pool by bringing their well-known pieces Death of a Collector, 2009, and Watching, 2016, to The Standard Spa, Miami Beach for one night only.
The work will be incorporated through the use of inflatable reproductions in The Standard Spa, Miami Beach’s Bayside infinity pool. Guests are welcomed to jump in the pool and interact with the installation during the party, or enjoy from afar at The Standard Spa’s Bayside Dock areas. Watching, Elmgreen & Dragset’s sculpture of a young man peering through binoculars sitting atop a high lifeguard chair, will also be integrated in staff uniforms for the event, as well as The Standard’s room keys for the duration of the art fair. In addition to these striking artworks featured throughout the venue, the recognizable Elmgreen & Dragset turquoise color of Miami Beach’s new Bent Pool sculpture will be incorporated throughout specialty cocktails and staff uniforms, alongside other event elements.
