THE RED JACKET BALL

City Year Miami celebrated its inaugural gala, The Red Jacket Ball, on Friday, March 19, 2010 at the Eden Roc Beach Resort & Spa on Miami Beach. The Red Jacket Ball brought together 350 local corporate, philanthropic, and community leaders for a celebration of the red jacket, an emblem of the 82 young leaders serving as corps members across Miami-Dade County and the transformational work that they are achieving in our public schools and neighborhoods.

Special guests at The Red Jacket Ball included community activist and leader Tracy Wilson Mourning and Miami Dade College President Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón, who were honored at the event for their outstanding work to the community. City Year Miami and The Miami Herald were proud to name Dr. Claudette Derrick as the first recipient of The Red Jacket Award for Idealism for her 40 years of service to education.

The Red Jacket Ball is the heart of City Year Miami’s annual fundraising efforts and all proceeds go to support our programming in the schools and communities we serve.  Your generous support makes it possible for City Year corps members to give a year and change the world – one community, one neighborhood, one child at a time.
