The Local Panini & Flat Bar Officially Opened its Doors to Welcome Friends and Neighbors to an Unforgettable Opening Bash

As rain-soaked revelers daringly made their way through the puddled streets of South Beach, they were not disappointed once arriving at The Local’s Opening Summer Bash held Friday Night, June 4th from 6-8 p.m. at its location in the South Tower of The Flamingo Residences, 1500 Bay Road.

As the brief downpour that would seemingly not let up at the beginning of the fete abruptly (and thankfully) abated and turned into sunshine, partygoers swiftly settled into the get-down mood; enjoying a savory selection of hot and cold hors’douvres carefully prepared by Chef Marco Bidart and proprietor, Ken Ray. The tasting showed off the The Local’s eclectic and internationally inspired fare that included delicious bites of their homemade flats, unique and fresh shrimp ceviche with avocado and cilantro, flaked tuna on Panini and their famous imported Parma Prosciutto amongst other offerings.

There was plenty to go around and guests took it all in while mingling inside or lounging near the pool as DJ Mark Leventhal spun everything from classic rock to 80’s and hip-hop. Partygoers were also treated to a “photomontage” presented by artist/photographer, Jeff Thomas Schuller whose work, Big Easy —a selection of mood prints taken in New Orleans— provided a sultry and colorful backdrop that will continue to show at The Local throughout the month of June. Adding to the mix, a centerpiece party “ice luge” gave revelers the chance to swig from a refreshing selection of premium vodka provided by Svedka. Other sponsors included Ketel One, Miller Lite, Brooklyn Lager and Flor de Caña

About The Local

Himself a long-time resident “local” of South Beach, Ken Ray wanted to bring back the kind of establishment where one could unwind and enjoy a good drink and savory bite with friends and family in a setting that was relaxed and fun without the prices and pretenses of a typical South Beach hangout. A nod to the easy-going vibe of the 70’s, The Local blends the comfort and feel of a neighborhood bar with the selection and quality of an upscale lounge. The Local invites guests to come in and sit at the bar or pool to relish in a tasty, fresh and inexpensive meal or a refreshing beer or cocktail while delighting in thoughtful service and the peace of mind they once felt before life became so complicated.

The Local features a complete bar including beer on tap or in bottles, wines, and an extensive cocktail selection. The eclectic menu is inspired by Italian cuisine and includes fresh salads, homemade appetizers, paninis and flat breads. Situated in the South Tower of The Flamingo residences, The Local boasts outdoor seating with sweeping views of the bay and pool area.
